This walnut nightstand has a simple goal: create a clean, functional bedside piece that lets the wood be the star. The body of the nightstand is built from solid walnut with carefully matched grain on all visible faces. An open cubby at the top offers quick access storage, while a single drawer below keeps essentials tucked away.
The drawer front showcases some of the most dramatic grain in the board, and the case edges are eased just enough to catch the light without looking soft. To elevate the design, tapered legs were joined into a simple skirt that lifts the nightstand off the floor and gives a light, mid-century feel without being overly stylized.
Construction was straightforward: a mitered case, a stop-dado for the shelf, a solid bottom drawer with push to open and soft close blum slides, and hand-fitted joinery throughout. The finish is a hand-rubbed oil that deepens the walnut’s natural warmth and brings out the swirling patterns in the wood.
In the end, the walnut nightstand is both practical and beautiful — a piece that feels at home next to a bed but refined enough to stand on its own.
